Fabulous August 27, 2010 Melanie I confess that I love Nigella, so may be considered a little biased. I also love Christmas, so this is the perfect book for me. The photography is lovely. Nigella's prose is as always spot-one (as long as you bear in mind that it is meant to be tongue-in-cheek). I also think the recipes are excellent. I made the Christmas Rocky Road for all my family and friends last year and they all really liked it.
Butternut Squash Orzotto is 5* ! July 4, 2010 kittiwake (UK) I don't have any other Nigella books, so the comments that there are 50% repeat recipes isn't a problem for me!
I was looking for something special for my veggie Daughter-in-Law and tried the Butternut Squash orzotto recipe. It was wildly acclaimed by all 8 at the dinner table (7 of whom liked as a 'side') but my Daughter-in-Law was over the moon and pronounced it totally delicious and, just the other day, made me promise to make it her regular Christmas Dinner Main! It can be prepared days before and was easy to finish on the day without taking up more than one saucepan - brilliant. I made individual cheese-pastry cases (in advance) to serve it in for her and put the surplus on the table in a dish.
Otherwise, her book is a joy to read, even if you never cooked anything from it!
A beautiful book for a beautiful time of year June 28, 2010 L. Stewart (Australia) This is a beautiful christmas book and I know that for the years to come I will turn to it for Christmas just as I did last year.
The book contains some really fresh ideas, whilst keeping all the Christmas traditions we know and love. I love how there is a chapter dedicated to the 'big day' which really helps with the planning for the day. Plus there are menu ideas for parties and casual dinners with friends at the festive time of the year. A lot of the dishes I could see myself making at times other than Christmas as well.
Now I absolutely love Nigella, have all of her books and pretty much worship her, however I am giving Nigella four stars for this book simply because quite a few of the recipes also feature in her other books, or are only slightly modified. However having said that, it is a great book and has loads of ideas for Christmas and is a beautiful looking book with loads of picutres to go with the recipes.
Nigella Christmas June 23, 2010 Peder Rasmussen (Bydgoszcz, Poland - Danish of origin) Professional handling from order, payment and delivery. Delivered several days before deadline, so we can only give our best recommendation for dealing here again. The book was in super condition so only positive rates from here.
Love it love it love it! May 7, 2010 Rumplestaleskin (Cambridge, Uk) 'Christmas' does what it says on the tin and it provides recipes and inspiration so keep you satied throughout the festive period.
While it would be unfair to say that I didn't grow up with family Christmas traditions, reading 'Christmas' is definitely inspirational food for thought (excuse the pun!). I have adopted new traditions for Christmas on the basis of Nigella's suggestions. In fact, Chrsitmas would not be Christmas without preparing the turkey in the Nigella fashion. I am wholly converted and I get really upset when the festivities are over, knowing that I have to wait another year to enjoy a Nigella Christmas.
'Christmas' runs through suggestions for Crimbo eve, the big bonanza that is Xmas day, boxing day through to the New year. There are suggestions for drinks parties and recipes for canapes. The really awesome bit is the homemade Christmas present section that includes recipes for chutneys, chilli jam and other weird and wonderful concoctions. As usual with Nigella, all the recipes are a doddle and exceed expectations.
Don't be fooled into thinking that as a Christmas book you can only use it once a year. For example, I have used the Christmas coleslaw recipe to accompany roast chicken and even lasagne..it never fails!
In my opinion this is a great investment that will last a lifetime.
