No Where as good as the Orginal Series September 5, 2010 WeeShubbie (UK) I adore the orginal Vampire Diaries Series and was so excited for this book as LJ Smith is one of my fave authors. However, I was really disappointed. I know that authors writing style change over the years and you can really tell with this book. It is meant to be set just a week or so after the orginal series ended yet they have all got phones and laptops and computers. (that not a bad things just doesnt follow well with the other books). I just feel that this new series is missing the originality of the orginal 4 four books.
Brilliant August 10, 2010 Lindi I love the whole series of the VD novels so far, enjoyed this one loads and have read it several times, the novels just get better and better!
Excellent August 9, 2010 Mrs. A. M. Chadwick (Darwen, Lancashire, England) The series on ITV2 called the "Vampire Diaries finished a couple of weeks ago, (sob sob), and I really enjoyed it. :-)
The series was based on novels by L.J.Smith during the period it was on TV I decided to buy the first four novels in the series, as I know usually the novels that series are based on are even better, and I wasn't disappointed. :-)
So when the fifth book was realised I couldn't wait to buy it, as soon as it arrived I started to read it.
Elena sacrificed herself to save both Stefan and Damon but she was sent to a fate beyond death. But a very powerful supernatural force brought her back, now Elena is not just a normal human she has powers.
Elena's human friends: Bonnie, Meredith and Matt grow suspicious of Caroline's strange behaviour whilst trying to support Stefan's efforts to help Elena.
Stefan is lured away by an evil force ad Damon takes this chance to convince her that he's the one for her, but not everything is as it seems with Damon.
There's a darkness that's now covering Fell's Church and a malevolent creature is hell bent on hunting Damon as he can help him to get the one thing he wants, Elena.
Well, I don't want to say anymore about the story as I really don't want to spoil it for you.
The author grips you right from the start; her characters and the story are extremely well written. It's a very enjoyable and compulsive read; I just couldn't put this book down. :-)
If you're like me and you've been watching the TV series this is a must read. It's more involved and the story goes a little deeper into what's happened in the past. :-)
Even though these books are classed as young adult books, anyone from 14 years onward will enjoy them. It's an excellent horror novel and worth every penny. :-)
Transfixed and spellbound July 26, 2010 Mrs. D. Simpson (Derbyshire England) What can i say after reading the other two books this one is awsome, again could not put it down.
What was all this about???? July 22, 2010 Maria (Wales, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm not quite sure where to start.... I need to say that I absolutely loved the first 4 books. I read them back to back and couldn't get enough of them. So when I started with Nightfall I was full of expectations and excitement, only to be disappointed from the first page. Seriously what was all this book about??
Firstly I got annoyed with this baby like Elena, I mean she can't read, she can't write, she can't talk, she can't even walk for crying out loud. SHE FLOATS INSTEAD. She needs to kiss people to memorise them. I mean WHAT??? I started to miss the Elena Gilbert who knows what she wants and gets what she wants, always immaculate and knows it. As annoying as she might have been but nothing compares to this angel Elena.... Not impressed.
Second I got annoyed with St Stefan, always thought of him a bit spineless but if I thought he can't get any worse well I was wrong. Seriously what was all this 'lovely little love' all about?? OH PLEASE. And why is it that he's meant to be a vampire and strong etc and it seems to be Elena getting HIM out of trouble all the time? She's always rescuing him as he seems unable to look after himself!
Third I got annoyed with Bonnie and Meredith, always been my favourite characters among Elena and Damon but not now. I mean they seemed to be running around like headless chickens with no purpose whatsoever.
Last I got annoyed with all this flying... They never used to be flying anywhere and now all they do is fly everywhere! Don't get it. All in all I didn't get most of the book but nevermind. It was confusing, half the things that were going on I couldn't picture in my mind. Some things seemed so pointless and not connected to anything, just seemed like a total mess the whole book.
The Only reason this book managed to get 2 stars from me was because of Damon. Only reason that kept me reading. I would recommend anyone who haven't read these books yet to read the first 4 and leave it like that, I wish I had.
